Black Hat Gar’cham — Vajra Dance
This symbolic enactment through movement is to dispel the negativity and obstacles (bar chad / བར་ཆད་). After some years of saving, sGra bLa lJongs acquired a set of five Black Hat Vajra Dance robes and hats in 2020. We have put considerable effort into perfecting the dance — and this is now the fifth year it has been performed.
Several new students are now in training in order to act as standby dancers in case of in disposition of the current dancers and are looking into making their own costumes.
The Aro gTér has a rich tradition of dance Vajra Dance and so far we have performed the Dance of Dorje Phurba on numerous occasions. Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen plan eventually to add the Vulture and Garuda Vajra Dances to the annual series of symbolic enactments.
