You’re Buddhists — why d’you celebrate Christmas?

Someone asked Khandro Déchen and Ngak’chang Rinpoche “You’re Buddhists — why d’you celebrate Christmas?” They answered “Why not?”

This did not provide a sufficient answer for the person who asked the question and so they added “We’re English. Most of the English celebrate Christmas - beside which Christianity contains many sentiments with which we entirely concur. We celebrate Hanukkah too — and any other festival of peace and goodwill to all. We might add that you don’t have to be Christian to eat Christmas Pudding, Christmas Cake, Mince Pies — washed down with a festive glass of Port, Slœ Djinn, Calvados, or Armagnac. Deck the halls with bows of holly — ‘tis the Seadon to be Jolly — fa la la la la — la la la la.’
