When Ngak’chang Rinpoche was in the Himalayas in 1976. He met a Mongolian Buddhist pilgrim called Batzorig. He was a Nyingma and may have been a ngakpa —although he did not dress as such.

Batzorig told Ngak’chang Rinpoche a great deal about Genghis Khan. He gave him the lung of the mantra and explained that it meant ‘Mighty Monarch Evoke all Siddhisཿ He said that Genghis Khan has encouraged literacy and the Arts and had done a lot to improve the status of women.

He told Ngak’chang Rinpoche that the negative information concerning Genghis Khan was Russian propaganda designed to undermine the Mongolian national spirit. He said that this propaganda had been accepted without question by other countries.
Batzorig, the Mongolian Buddhist pilgrim listed many positive accomplishments of Genghis Khan and said that many Mongols considered him an emanation of Ling Gésar.

Ngak’chang Rinpoche said “It would seem that it would be wise to consider the fact that history is rarely simple. History contains much contradictory information — and so It is maybe preferable to look at what is positive — rather than accept negative information. Where there are conflicting accounts it is preferable to take a benevolent view.”
