The Aro gTérma gTér Bum Treasure Vase

Lama Tharchin Rinpoche taught on the subject of gTér bum when he visited Sang-ngak-chö-dzong in Penarth in 1995. Lama Tharchin Rinpoche said: “As prophesied by Guru Rinpoche, the Second Buddha, the gTér Bum is a remedy for beings in times of degeneration. gTér Bums restore vitality to the Elements (earth, water, fire, air and space) which have been depleted by pollutants and poisons in the environment.
They have the power to magnetise wealth and abundance, improve health, remove obstacles to long life, pacify anger and warfare, increase wisdom and realisation for all beings within their dKyil ’khor.

Traditionally a gTér Bum is kept in one’s home or buried on a mountain top, at the source of water (springs, lakes, oceans), in a field or garden. In the home it is kept in a high place, preferably an altar, and handled with great care as it contains many sacred relics and precious substances.

Practising in front of it will enrich the qualities of one’s family and the power of the gTér Bum.

Burying the gTér Bum on a mountain top will increase the Essence of the elements and remove obscurations and sufferings of Lha, kLu and humans.

Burying the gTér Bum at a water source will increase the water element energy and the energy of the kLu (water beings).

This is especially beneficial in times of drought.

Burying the gTér Bum in a field or garden will enrich abundance and promote growth.

Burying the gTér Bum in a practice place will empower the practitioners and secure the success of the practices.

To bury a gTér Bum requires a ceremony to be performed by a qualified Lama . This can be performed on site or simultaneously from a distance.”

In terms of the Aro gTér Lineage gTér Bum Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen wrote: The gTér Bum is a four sided Vase with round lid.

Each side of the gTér Bum has the syllable Dzam ཛཾ upon it in the colour of the particular direction of the elements.

It has Yellow Dzam ཛཾ on the lid;
Blue Dzam ཛཾ on the South Face;
White Dzam ཛཾ on the East Face;
Green Dzam ཛཾ on the North Face;
Red Dzam ཛཾ on the West Face.

The gTér Bum has a blue lid and a yellow body, with the Awareness-spell of Ögyen Dzambhala running around the internal rim of the lid, in gold lettering.

The inside of the gTér Bum is blue and the inside of the lid is yellow.

There is a Blue Dzam ཛཾ inside the lid.'
