When Kyabjé Künzang Dorje Rinpoche addressed the subject of ‘idiots’, the word he Tibetan word he used was: ‘thom-yor (འཐོམ་ཡོར).

Künzang Dorje Rinpoche often said that the world was full of both joy and suffering — but that there would be far less suffering without ‘thom-yors to made the suffering far worse than it actually needed to be. More than this — ‘thom-yors found endless ways in which to ruin the joy that was possible.

Künzang Dorje Rinpoche said: “O yah . . . The world is full of ‘thom-yors. Too many ‘thom-yors.

There are many kinds of ‘thom-yor: foolish harmless ‘thom-yors; shy emotionally vulnerable ‘thom-yors; oversensitive ‘thom-yors; ridiculous pious ‘thom-yors; comfort-seeking ‘thom-yors; mundane conformist ‘thom-yors; tight-minded conservative ‘thom-yors; unconventional exhibitionist ‘thom-yors; puritanical ‘thom-yors; pompous spiritual ‘thom-yors; self-righteous hypocritical ‘thom-yors; self-satisfied sanctimonious ‘thom-yors; academic scholarly ‘thom-yors; tedious self-centred ‘thom-yors; clever scheming ‘thom-yors; power-seeking ‘thom-yors; arrogant bigoted ‘thom-yors; cruel avaricious ‘thom-yors; dangerous vicious ‘thom-yors; and worst of all . . . monastic ‘thom-yors who live to sodomise little boys . . .

I have no time for ‘thom-yors.”

Ngak’chang Rinpoche said

“Of course . . . for a while . . . I was one of those ‘thom-yors. I hope I am now more-or-less cured.”
