Appreciation (brTsi mThong བརྩི་མཐོང་ / yi rang / ཡི་རང་).
Ngak’chang Rinpoche said “Appreciation spawns creativity – and creativity becomes Art. ་ Appreciation becomes Art when one refuses to compromise concerning the nature of what is created.
There can be no ‘good enough’ or ‘near enough’ in Art. Art is the refusal to accept the shade of colour available for the fabric or the paint – when the colour in one’s mind is different. That is where Art begins.
As soon as appreciation leads to making choices and expending effort in the realisation of those choices – one begins to recognise oneself as an Artist.
That is where Art bursts into being. Where one takes it, is called ‘life’.
Life—in this sense—is not ‘merely failing to die’ — but having a ‘life that is worth living’. Having a life that is worth living is a gesture of magnanimous empathy we can offer: as an inspiration and encouragement to others. That gesture proclaims that Everyone & Everything, Everywhere is the compassionate effulgence of Art.
