Naljorma Chatral A’dzé has been a student of Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen since 1997, took ordination in 2005, and began teaching in 2017. After attending her first public retreat in 1997, the yogic songs that Rinpoche sang there stayed with her, delightfully recurring at odd moments. Since she had studied voice as an absorbing passion since 1982, yogic song became a natural entrée to practice for her. The practice of the four nal’jors is also a favorite, and she teaches mainly on these two topics. Chatral began the study of classical written Tibetan in 2014, and now also teaches beginning Tibetan to members of the sangha. As an editor of Aro Books, she has helped to edit and design books by Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen.

She and her husband Art Steinhauer married in 1976. They have 2 sons, 2 daughters-in-law, and 4 utterly happy grandsons. Their sons and daughters-in-law are all kind, thoughtful, and accomplished people, and take great pleasure in their families. Chatral considers her parenting abilities to be her finest accomplishment this time around. The foundation of this, she believes, is her skill in communication, grounded in being a powerful listener.

Chatral and Art live in the Catskills of upstate New York, which is the home of the largest monumental phurba in the world.
