This is the simplest hand position for meditation: palms down on the thighs. Traditionally it is used in lhatong meditation, which you will learn several weeks from now. It also works for the shi-nè meditation you are learning currently.
This is the traditional and best hand position for shi-nè. The hands are in your lap, palms up, one in the other, with your thumbs barely touching.
