Gar-tak Buddhist Martial Arts
Gar-tak and Jong-dar workshop
Weekend event with Chhi’mèd Künzang
US In-person only
Gar-tak and Jong-dar training with Naljorpa Chhi'méd Künzang. This is a unique opportunity to engage in the martial practices of the Ling Gésar gTer.
Dra’dül Gar-tak Nyén-Kyong is the Tibetan Art of Protecting Relatives by Subduing Enemies. This specifically Buddhist martial art uses movement forms which are the physical expression of the Dancing Tiger from which the name Gar-tak derives. The tiger is naturally relaxed but powerful in his habitat. He or she is ready to jump spontaneously into any given situation when necessary.
The teachings of Gar-tak are designed to engender honour and nobility – to be able to take the fearless step of a warrior to prevent harm coming to others. Even those without great physical or martial prowess can obtain insight into the essential decency and dignity of the human condition through these practices. For those who wish to take the martial practices further, just the wish to go in the direction of a warrior will already make a difference.
