The Union of Passion and Compassion
Retreat with Ngak’chang Rinpoche & Khandro Déchen
UK In-person only
What makes simple kindness so difficult? What does lust for chocolate, or for tooled leather belts, or for mountain sunsets, have to do with compassion? How can a naïve approach to “benefiting others” become a way of solidifying self and other—and the boundary between them—in one’s mind?
Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen will speak about passion as the necessary basis for compassion, empathetic appreciation as the synapse that makes a connection with other beings possible, and vivid individuality as communication that goes beyond possessiveness and self. They will discuss compassion in relation to emptiness and form, from the perspective of Dzogchen and the different yanas, or vehicles, of Buddhadharma.
The weekend will consist of talks by Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen, questions and answers, and periods of meditation practice and yogic song.
On Saturday evening, Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen will give the dBang, or Tantric empowerment, of Ling Gésar. Horse lord and warrior king, Gésar exemplifies the bravery and heroism of compassion. He is the model of enlightened activity, fully involved with the world.
Known for their humorous and articulate presentation of Dharma teachings, Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen have taught regularly in the UK, USA and Europe for nearly 20 years.
2nd - 4th May, Friday evening until Sunday lunchtime. Saturday lunch and evening meal included. Please note this event is non-residential. If you are travelling from outside Bristol, you can contact us for details of local hotel, B&B and hostel accomodation.
