Karma: Beyond Cause and Effect
Friday evening
Popular ideas of karma take a fatalistic view — ‘what goes around comes around’ — or a mechanistic understanding of cause and effect — you drop a glass, it breaks. But even a cursory look at the logic of these ideas will find gaps. For example, where and how are these karmas recorded and how is karmic ‘Justice’ dispensed? Ngakma Shardröl will discuss the Buddhist view of karma, and the method of how we can change it.
The Owl Precepts
Saturday afternoon
Ngakma Shardröl will teach on the Five Precepts, practiced in all schools of Buddhism, from the view of Dzogchen. This opens out from the sutric idea of specific prohibited activities to encompass a profound view of how to live as a Buddhist practitioner in a world of complication and contradiction.
