Jong Dar - moving meditation
Class with Thrin-lé Chatral
Aro Ling Bristol
UK
In-person only
Jong Dar covers all the physical practices of the Aro Tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism. In this class we focus on exercises from the peaceful and energetic series.
The 25 Ying ’khor exercises involve subtle movement in a standing position. Some include visualisation of coloured light energy synchronised with the breath. A few involve sound as vocalised syllables.
sKu-mNyé (pronounced ‘Kumnye’) in the Aro tradition is a system of 111 repetitive physical exercises which massage the spatial nerves of the subtle, energetic body – giving rise to extraordinary sensations. In these unusual sensations it is possible to find the presence of non-dual awareness—rigpa—momentary enlightenment.
The exercises are entirely unlike any other system of movement or exercise. They range from gentle to exceedingly difficult. Some can be performed by almost everyone. Others are used by athletes in an exercise regimen requiring extreme strength, flexibility, coordination, and aerobic exertion. In this class, examples taken from the first series of 35 exercises, are taught and practised.
These exercises are primarily a system of moving meditation. Regular practice also leads to increased fitness, flexibility, strength and stamina. People often experience increased vitality and cheerfulness and become less constrained by habitual habit patterns and conditioning. Ying ‘khor and sKu-mNyé can form a valuable part of a regular meditation schedule.
Everyone welcome – whatever level of fitness.
