Dakini Songs from a Lineage of Enlightened Women
singing power into being
Class with Mé-tsal Wangmo & Ja'gyür Dorje
UK In-person only
A three week course introducing the practice of Dzogchen gar-dang—yogic song— from a tradition of enlightened female practitioners: Yeshé Tsogyel, MagÇig Labdrön and Aro Lingma. The teachings from this mother essence lineage are practical and highly applicable, yet tremendously profound – being conveyed as interpenetrating layers that each person understands according to their needs and previous experience. The tradition is principally concerned with transforming our experience of everyday being, rather than achieving an esoteric or spiritualised mode of existence, the aim being to engender cheerful courage, perceptive consideration, sincere determination, natural gallantry, graciousness, creativity, and spaciousness. In the practice of yogic song the subtle resonances of the dimension of sound can be discovered as a method of establishing presence of awareness - rigpa. These dakini songs function through essential energy to re-establish our innate vitality. The songs are not simply dramatic and powerful, they are also melodically beautiful – and to practice them evokes joy. In the practice of yogic song we discover the human voice as multicoloured natural potency through which a vast unequivocal knowledge can be spontaneously apprehended. We learn that singing is not simply part of a rich tradition – but an advanced yogic technique which employs the breath to galvanise the subtle body. No previous experience or singing expertise is required for these practices, just an open mind.
