Ceremony with Ngak’chang Rinpoche & Khandro Déchen

aro-ling-shrine

Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen will give teachings on the ceremony of the Black Hat Dance. They will perform this dance on the eve of the New Year, Losar, as part of a 3 day traditional Tibetan celebration of the beginning of the year of the fire bird.

Zha-nag—black hat dance—is often described as ‘exorcism’ but this is only true if ‘we’ are the ‘ghoulies and ghosties and long leggedy beasties and things that go bump in the night’. We are our own demons and we haunt ourselves on a moment by moment basis. Khandro Déchen and Ngak’chang Rinpoche will perform the symbolic display zha-nag in its seated mode. Symbolic display should be experienced as art and the transformative aspect requires openness to the spectrum of the sense fields in which our neuroses are encouraged to depart.
